KICKIT Mobile Library
In 2016, TOBFC established 5 KICKIT mobile libraries to promote literacy and reading, serving a total of 11 communities and hundreds of children and adults on a weekly basis. Our mobile libraries operate on bicycles, where the facilitators attach trunks of books to the back. The facilitators are from and are chosen by the community. They spend 2 hours in each village, twice a week, to allow our participants time to read. Our facilitators, who are responsible for the books, bikes and managing the two hour sessions, receive constant support from TOBFC. This program is meant to fill the gap in opportunity to story books and reading for pleasure, that is absent from the majority of our beneficiaries lives. We continuously update our book collection including a multicultural representation of Tanzanian and African authors in both English and Kiswahili.
